Adios Avios: BA kills the last redemption sweet-spot?

We just got an email from the BA Executive Club. And it seems that one of the last good redemption options within the Avios program is being "enhanced", effective February 2, 2016. Trips originating or terminating within the United States of America will start at 7,500 miles versus 4,500!!!

This only affects trips starting at 4,500 miles (sub 650 miles) which allowed flights from NYC to BOS/YYZ/YUL/WAS which at times could be very expensive. Business Class goes from 9,000 to 15,000 miles.

Official Version from the BA site:

We’re making some changes to reward flight pricing in North America

On 2 February 2016, we’ll be making some changes to the Executive Club pricing structure for reward flights originating or terminating in the United States of America. The change will only affect shorter routes on American Airlines and Alaska Airlines, with reward flights now starting from 7,500 Avios, rather than 4,500 Avios, plus taxes, fees and carrier charges from $5.60 USD. The majority of North American reward flight prices will remain unchanged.
All other categories remain the same. We can only speculate that American Airlines and to a lesser extent Alaska were not happy having seats that could sell for 12,500 AA miles go left and right for 4,500 Avios.

There might still be some value in this program but hard to find compared to other programs within OneWorld. So at least in my opinion, ADIOS AVIOS!

Singapore Airlines First Class HKG - AKL

The plane was operated with the old Singapore Airlines First configuration but still provided passengers with a comfortable seat and great IFE.

My main issue with SQ is that almost no flights have a Caviar service. SFO-HKG , SIN-CDG , SIN-AKL and even SIN-FRA-JFK get away with a late meal and no Caviar something that would be served on similar flights on Cathay Pacific.
I was expecting a Caviar service just satays, which were great but pale in comparison to Emirates which can serve a dine on demand Caviar service on a quick hop from DXB to Europe at 2 AM, why can't SQ do this at 9 pm from their hub.

Watched a movie and had a quick bite:

After a quick bite I passed out till breakfast time, I had requested a Japanese meal for breakfast and it was a delicious option, obviously not as good as a JAL F ex NRT meal but much better than a regular omelet.

Afterwards it was a quick walk to immigration and I was in country 119.

Super Hot Deal: Europe to Asia €323!!

Here at PCD we usually just focus on Premium sales, but we had to share this economy sale!

Planning an End of Year trip to escape the cold in Europe?

Xiamen Airlines is offering tickets from Barcelona to Hong Kong or Tokyo for as low as €323 for peak year end travel.
Flights combine the Xiamen 787 from Amsterdam to China and KLM from European destinations to Amsterdam.

This is bookable on Google Flights.

Beyond First: SQ - The Private Room Lounge (Review)

After the Short hop from Hong Kong it was time to explore the Private Room, this lounge is exclusivly for passengers flying First on Singapore Airlines, similar to the Concorde Room at LHR or the First Class Terminal at FRA. These are higher quality than other lounges and significantly more exclusive. So of course, PremiumCabinDeals was there to enjoy it!

I dropped by the Private Room for a quick bite and then headed into town on the free city tour.

The whole lounge feels like a 5 Star Hotel reception or waiting area, waiters are at your beck and call, while the Champagne flows freely...

After that it was time to head back to the airport and enjoy some more food and drinks prior to my flight to Auckland.

I decided to try the Three Cheese Lobster, I must say it's a pretty decadent meal to enjoy at an airport lounge but absolutely delicious.

Hot!: Montreal to Cuba in Business Class 627CAD / 482USD

Excellent fare on a new 5th Freedom Flight.  Fly Lie Flat 777-300 on Air China from Montreal to Havana.

Ticket is valid even during the New Year's Eve time frame. The flight only operates certain days a week.

Also valid for Martin Luther King and President's Day weekend.

This will most likely not credit to United as HAV is blocked from earnings, but it should credit to other programs.

I was in Cuba in January 2015 and I loved it, if you want some advice on how to plan a great weekend, please reach out to the team here at PremiumCabinDeals.com

Air China has a very decent business class product on the Boeing 777-300.

It easy to get to Montreal using Avios for those that are looking how to get there from other cities.

Flying Singapore HKG-SIN First Class!

Singapore Airlines SQ 1 HKG-SIN
Boeing 777-300 First Class

My cost less than USD 1000 (based on miles valuation)

After a night in Hong Kong , I boarded the N22 bus direct to Terminal 1 and about an hour later I arrived at HKG Terminal 1. I dropped by the SQ check-in demand collected a BP for "The Private Room in SIN"
A few minutes later I was at the newly renovated SQ lounge for a preflight bite.

I was presently surprised when I boarded and saw the newly renovated F product/seat which was very similar to the old seat, a great product for the 3 hour hop to Singapore.

SQ 1 starts in SFO before crossing the Pacific, I flew the prior segment back in 2013 on the Airbus 380. But this leg was operated by the 777 allowing me to sample some new Singapore Airlines cabins.

On this short hop neither pajamas nor amenity kits were distributed and it was a breakfast service with no BTC.

I had the omelet with a fresh cappuccino and several glasses of champagne.
Shortly after we landed in Singapore and debated what to do during my layover.
