Colonia is a classic weekend or even day trip  getaway from Buenos Aires.

The departmental capital Colonia del Sacramento is known for its cobbled historic quarter and colonial Portuguese and Spanish buildings. Many house museums, including the Museo del Azulejo, filled with ceramic tiles.

The Colonia del Sacramento Lighthouse, surrounded by the ruins of a convent, offers panoramic views.
we had hired a driver from the Sheraton Hotel who gave us a programmed cell phone so that we could call a car when we were ready on the return.
